HAWS SCORES CAREER BEST FINISH IN HIS 4TH START Denver, NC (9/16/13) Brayton Haws was coming off of a tough race in the Bobby Issac Memorial this past weekend where he looked to turn his luck around at the Zloop 100. Haws and his team have had speed in the car but just haven’t got the finishes to show for it in the past two races due to circumstances. Haws would be fast once again this weekend as he sat P1 on the speed charts after the first round of practice. The team made a few minor adjustments throughout the practice sessions to get ready for qualifying. Luck would definitely not be on his side for qualifying as he drew the #1 pill and had to qualify first. This is normally a slight disadvantage on it’s own, however, to make matters worse a car blew an engine in the class prior to the Late Models, leaving oil dry all around the track for Brayton’s lap. Brayton turned in a lap of 15.42, which was good for a 9th place starting spot in the 17-car field. The game plan was to let some guys go at the beginning of the race to save tires, and then work our way back to the front as other cars started to fade. Brayton fell back to 12th before he started to move forward again picking off cars on his way to the front. The problem with the plan was that there was only one caution in the race at lap 8 and it went green the rest of the way. The 92 lap green flag run made it hard to get back the track position lost at the beginning of the race. Although Brayton had worked his way back into the 6th position there would not be enough time to catch the leaders and Haws would still come home with a career best 6th place finish in the Zloop 100. The results are still unofficial pending a ruling on race winner, Jeremy Sorel, whose shock absorbers are in question and are currently being reviewed by NASCAR officials. A disqualification would result in a top 5 finish for Brayton and his team. The team will be back testing in the coming weeks for the Fall Brawl 150 to be held at Hickory on October 26. The Fall Brawl is one of 4 big races left of the 2013 schedule for Haws and Lee Faulk Racing.
