HEALING WOUNDS: KWIBUKA 20 - Commemorating The Rwanda Genocide Over the course of a 100 day period beginning on April 7th, approximately 1 million Tutsis and moderate Hutus were murdered in Rwanda, as one of the most irrefutable acts of genocide in the 20th Century plagued the world. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, and we invite you to join us in commemorating the lives lost during this era in the production of a play entitled, Vanessas Closet. Vanessas Closet tells a story of an adolescent Tutsi college student who is rendered helpless, as she observes the massacre of family and friends in Africa. This brief drama encapsulates the affliction and torment experienced by a direct Rwandan descendant in the face of national genocide. Vanessas Closet is written and directed by Union student, Kije Mugisha Rwamasirabo who drew from her personal experience and perspective throughout the story. This event is put together by Union students. We hope you will join us as we reflect on this tragedy, 20 years later, and explore what it really means to heal through word, song, and testimony. Healing Wounds: Kwibuka 20 - Commemorating the Rwanda Genocide Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. James Memorial Chapel Registration is required. RSVP below>>
