HEBOU PNG Barramundis dominate Hong Kong on Day 1 The Hebou PNG Barramundis dominated the Hong Kong bowlers, posting 6/411 at Stumps on Day 1 in the Three-Day Match at the Tony Ireland Stadium, in Townsville yesterday. After winning the toss and batting on another beautiful day in Townsville, the HEBOU PNG Barramundis got off to a brilliant start with Tony Ura and ODI centurion, Lega Siaka putting on 87 runs for the first wicket before Ura was dismissed for 58. Assad Vala joined Siaka, continuing the onslaught of the Hong Kong bowlers putting on a further 50 runs for the second wicket before Siaka was dismissed soon after making his half century for 51. In form Vani Vagi Morea, joined Vala putting on 162 runs for the third wicket, to take the match away from Hong Kong. Vala and Morea hit the Hong Kong bowlers to all parts of the Tony Ireland Stadium and rotated the strike on a regular basis. They were in cruise control and were on track to score centuries each. Unfortunately, they both fell short of this land mark with Morea (90) and Vala (98) falling in quick succession during the post lunch session to leave the HEBOU PNG Barramundis at 4/301. Morea’s innings of 90 came off 119 balls, including 13 boundaries. Vala’s innings was equally entertaining scoring his 98 off just 118 balls, hitting 12 boundaries. Former England Test Cricketer and current HEBOU PNG Barramundis player, Geraint Jones did not trouble the scorers too much being dismissed for 4 runs to leave the HEBOU PNG Barramundis in danger of being dismissed for a score below 350 at 5/307. After being overlooked for the two (2) ODIs, Kila Pala came to the crease and took the momentum back from the Honk Kong bowlers, scoring 56 to take the HEBOU PNG Barramundis score to 6/388. Captain Chris Amini (37*) and Mahuru Dai (5*) then guided the HEBOU PNG Barramundis to a very strong position at Stumps, being 6/411 after 96 overs. Nadem Ahmed was the only real shining light for Hong Kong, taking 4/111 on a tough day for the bowlers. Day 2 will continue today at 10am (local time).
