HELICOPTER RESCUE As you may have seen through previous posts on this page (or many more on the Blue Mountains Police Rescue Facebook page), Polair and Rescue helicopters play an integral role in rescue & search operations in the Blue Mountains. They perform such tasks as aerial searches and Rescue/Search team insertion & retrieval. However, the most vital role they perform is the retrieval of injured bush walkers, rock climbers and canyoners from remote locations throughout the Blue Mountains region. In the below video taken from earlier in the year. a badly injured rock climber has already been winched aboard the helicopter. The Ambulance SCAT (Special Casualty Access Team) Paramedic is then winched on board with equipment. The chopper then makes a dash to hospital where the climber receives timely acute medical treatment for his injuries. If not for this service, the injured victim potentially faces several hours (or far greater if a remote area) of a stokes litter carry out with the grateful assistance from our local volunteer emergency services. A serious injury can easily become a life threatening injury in these protracted incidents. Clearly, the use of the helicopters is exceptionally beneficial on many occasions. Over the past week, there have been helicopters assisting each day for a wide variety of incidents. https://facebook/photo.php?v=535194489863264
