HELL. Not a popular topic in our society, nor in many of the pulpits in our nation. Matt Chandler, in the Explicit Gospel, says that the reality of hell is terrifying. But it is most terrifying to those who are being saved from it. Most people bound for hell, Largely believe it doesnt exist. You may be walking through a jungle filled with poisonous snakes, but if you dont know they silently slither through the trees, you can have a false sense that all is well. Only when you realize the danger is present, do you see your need for rescue! We are so desperately wicked, that apart from the work of God, we wont even realize that we are in danger and that we need to be saved! If its not popular to speak of hell and judgement, Jesus would not have fit into our society, nor many of our churches. He spoke of hell, He warned of judgement, and He did that so that the people would know the reality that faced them apart from repentance and faith in Him. Jesus described hell as a place of darkness, where there will be great weeping and gnashing of teeth, a place of eternal fire that is never quenched, where the worm never dies! Other passages speak of the smoke of the peoples torment rising for ever and ever and the torment of burning sulfur. Hell is THAT bad! But God is also THAT good....that He gave us his Son to die in our place...that we might be spared His wrath and judgement. And we know the sacrifice of His Son was pleasing, because HE LIVES!!
