*** HELP PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE OUTLET TO AT-RISK YOUTH IN THE INNER CITIES *** The Gloves not Guns program is trying to provide an outlet for at-risk youth who come from/still dwell in bad environments, be that poverty, violence, or other circumstances detrimental to their chance to learn proper values, morals, life lessons, etc that facilitate their growing up and becoming a productive and positive member of their community. Many of these kids simply dont have a choice. With absentee parents and growing up around nothing but negativity, its very unlikely that they are able to find an outlet to give them a way out that doesnt involve handcuffs or a coffin. By providing the venue, equipment, and most importantly, good people with a vested interest and compassion, Gloves not Guns hopes to show these at-risk youth a different path and steer them down said path while instilling in them the necessary values to promote their own success, breaking a very common and heart-breaking trend of the opposite happening. They are accepting donations at the link below in order to secure the proper equipment such as gloves, hand wraps, jump ropes, mouth guards and other protective equipment. If you are able to donate, I encourage you to do so, as its for a truly great cause, and your donation is going toward children who, unfortunately, are incapable given their age of doing much to help themselves. If you cannot donate, I hope that you will share this status, or at least spread the word to those you know. Its important to remember that some of the greats, including Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson benefited from something similar to this. Mike Tysons poor upbringing leading him to a detention center where his boxing skills were noticed by Bobby Stewart, Ali telling a cop he was going to assault a thief after the thief had stolen his bike, and the officer steering Ali toward boxing instead.
