HELP SUPPORT THE FUTURE OF THE MALENY SHOW! The Sunshine Coast Council are considering the future of the Maleny Show Public Holiday. Please support our bid to keep the Friday of the show as a public holiday. The Maleny Show helps to manage and improve the showground facilities, for the benefit and enjoyment of the whole community as a sporting and recreational hub for all of the year. The Friday of the show is the show day holiday, and is the biggest day. Without the income it generates, paying for the upkeep of the grounds would become impossible. The present Maleny Showgrounds are an impressive community asset, lovingly built and cared for over generations, with each generation playing their part in making sure the grounds are passed on in a better condition than when received. Today the list of organisations that are homed, and the events held in the grounds is impressive. They are home to the SES, Rural Fire, Navy Cadets, Maleny Community Gym, Maleny Players, Maleny Art and Craft, Maleny Tennis, Croquet Club, Rangers Soccer Club, Maleny Cricket Club, Maleny Equestrian Groups, Maleny Pony Club, Maleny Polo Club, 5th Light horse Brigade, and of course the Maleny Show Society. The immaculately kept and well used grounds are used extensively for sporting and recreation events such as Cricket, Football, Croquet, Tennis, Skateboarding, Equestrian Activities and much more. They are home now not only to our traditional Agricultural Show, with is impressive and volunteer built past, but provide a venue to other large scale successful and developing events: The Wood Expo, The Food Festival, Muscle on the Mountain Car Show, Historic Car and Bike Swap Meet, Caravan and camping facilities, Maleny Music Weekend, and a huge range of other events using the main show pavilion. Each of these attracts thousands of people to our town, bringing immediate cash injections of immeasurable benefit to business, in times that now see no local industry in Maleny – a time that finds us increasingly dependent on events and tourism income.
