HELP! Though it probably came across as sappy, last night I told my students that the most important lesson is to help each other. More important than learning techniques, rolling, or even achieving ones dreams of being a pro fighter or Jiu Jitsu competitor, is to help those who cant help themselves; or those who need a little encouragement. We go to class to improve ourselves, but we must also go to class to improve others. If we go merely for ourselves, we could have just spent the day lifting weights. Jiu Jitsu and MMA are highly interactive, and therefore have the potential of changing peoples lives. One student summarized what I was telling them by saying pay it forward. Although that sounds corny, thats essentially what I mean. IF WERE NOT HELPING OTHERS, WERE MERELY IDOLIZING OURSELVES.
