Literacy Studies Doctoral Students planning on graduating May 2014: POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Faculty Member in English Education Department of Language and Literacy Education, College of Education, The University of Georgia The program in English Education in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at The University of Georgia is pleased to announce a search for a faculty member to fill an open-rank tenure-track position. Within the open-rank classification, candidates within 5 years of earning a doctorate would be hired at the assistant professor rank; candidates with 6 to 10 years after earning a doctorate would be considered for the associate professor rank; and candidates with 10 or more years after earning a doctorate would be considered for the full professor rank. Years in rank at another institution will be considered in determining rank at UGA at the time of hire. Qualifications for the position include: · an earned doctorate at the time of employment with a specialization in English Education, secondary school literacy education, or related field · a record of scholarship that is related to secondary school English teaching and learning · at least three years of full-time teaching English/Language Arts in grades 7-12. Responsibilities for the position include: · maintaining an active research and publication program · mentoring graduate students · directing theses and dissertations · seeking external funding · teaching the equivalent of two courses per semester in the department. The University of Georgia, a land-grant/sea-grant university, is the largest and most comprehensive educational institution in Georgia. The University enrolls 35,000 students and is located in the rolling hills of northeast Georgia. Athens is approximately one hour from metropolitan Atlanta and also within easy access to coastal areas and the scenic Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee mountains.
