HELPFUL HINTS ***LOST A PET?*** •Ring the council immediately and report your pets microchip as LOST •GO IN PERSON to your local pounds at least 1-2 times per week to search all cages. DO NOT rely on phone calls. DO NOT rely on anyone else to check for you. NOBODY knows your pet as well as you do. **This advice comes from the pound staff themselves.** Look through outside and inside areas including adoption areas. •Contact all your local vets. •Attach a laminated flyer to your letterbox with your pets photo and your phone number. •Doorknock your neighbourhood and leave flyers with each house. •Give a flyer to your garbage truck man as he goes up and down every street and has a better view into peoples yards. •Give your postman a flyer. •Leave flyers at local shops, vets, and community noticeboards. •Put an ad on gumtree, in the local schools newsletters, and in the newspaper. •Contact radio stations. •Wherever your pet was last sighted, leave a piece of clothing with your scent on it and if possible set up a little bed or crate, to try to lure him/her back to that spot. •Continue searching after dark, noise travels further at night. •If you have another dog, take them walking on a long lead in the area of the last sighting, as they may be able to pick up the scent of the missing pet. ***FOUND A PET?*** •If its safe to do so, try to secure it. •Be aware that legally a stray animal must be taken to a pound within 72hrs of being found, this is the 1st place owners will search. •Check the inside of a collar as sometimes thats where the pets ID is. •Doorknock the area the pet was found in. •If possible, take the pet to the nearest vet to be scanned for a microchip. •Contact all local vets and pounds to check if anyone has reported their lost pet. •Place an add on Gumtree, and in the newspapers (its free.)
