HERES MY PROLOGUE TORN by Haley Mcconnery I sat at my desk. My arm at a 90 degree angle, my head lay softly on my hand. It was third period and I was already bored out of my mind, and my eyes were getting heavier, and heavier, with every slow, passing minute. I started to doze off when suddenly I remembered what had happened the last time Ms.Jody caught someone sleeping in her history class, so I woke myself by shaking my leg gently every now and again. I was merely enjoying myself until the guy beside me blurted out, Cut it out spaz! My eyes narrowed at the small thin boy, unsure if he was talking to me or not. His facial expression showed me that he had meant to hurt my feelings, but I just rolled my eyes and started to doodle on a blank piece of paper. Whatre you drawin there? He snarled, ripping the paper out of my binder. He scanned the paper with his big green eyes, then, out of nowhere, took out a marker and started scribbling everywhere on my paper, once filled with small sketches but now ruined in a split second by an ugly brown color. I had heard him snicker quietly, but loud enough for me to hear. Then, after a few moments of marker scribbling, he gave me my paper back. I glared at the paper that had the words, STUPID, FAT, NERDY, SPAZ!, sloppily written on it. I had heard him choking on his own laughter, which meant, for me, that the fun wasnt over. Angrily I let out a sigh and flipped the page over. Now I was fuming mad, because what I had just read was highly inappropriate for someone like me. The words that I had never hear in years were right there, in front of me, as if mocking me with every letter. I froze right where I was and I felt a warm tear stream down my left cheek, more laughter coming from the boy and his best bud behind him. He had gotten to me, thats what he wanted, and now that I showed him it had effected me, he would come back for more. Right then and there I felt my stomach knot up, butterflies rising up within me, I had to run. It was either run, or stay here and cry.
