~♥~ HERO - A0968142 ~♥~ MACC A volunteer writes ~ Hero, a huge elderly Bull mastiff who has seen better days....was relinquished into our care as his long time owners did not have time for him anymore. Hero has spent most of his life in a yard and it shows. His coat is mothed and he has an incredible number of calluses. His eyes, already cloudy with age, have a yellow discharge(he came in with) impairing his vision and ambulation. Indeed, Hero often bumps into things....He is quite thin as often older dogs are but his nutrition might not have been adequate. He is a big beast to feed....Hero lived with another dog but is said to bark at him or her. He chased the house cat...He also liked not to be disturbed when he ate. Hero is your typical backyard dog. Hero got up right away when I came to his door, quite slowly, though. He was leashed without fuss. He walked slowly, climbing stairs with caution and eliminated as soon as we reached the yard. He did not seem to mind the other pooches present in the area. He was quite hungry for food and treats. He let me clean his eyes without any complain. As a matter of fact, he seemed thankful for it as he could walk better thereafter. Hero sat as I asked and even posed for pictures. He clearly liked to be petted and have his big head scratched. he was friendly to other people coming to say hello. Hero must have been a beauty in his prime. It is not too late to revamp his health and looks with good basic care and mostly love.
