HEY ABC, ITS OVER FELLAS!... sorry, but you lost that election. Fairfax can wallow in its own excrement, I don’t care; it deserves to suffer the wrath of the very market forces it despises. But the army of Labor hacks who infest the ABC I do care about. It’s my house and they don’t pay rent so how can I claim restoration against my own bond? The ABC problem will find its way to Abbott’s too-hard basket. It can’t be sold, it’s unsaleable, unless it can be let loose on a cramped and fragmented commercial advertising market already suffering from an on-line phenomenon. That won’t happen. It could be disbanded, but its massive cost and infrastructure would lie, wasted and rusting like the desalination plants they promoted to save us from global warming. Anyway a future Labor Government would re-invent their own, more expensive ABC, as a matter of urgency. The only way to reform the ABC is from Chairman Spigelman down and that will take time. A culture of Left wing Marxism devoid of public sentiment has been allowed to fester despite shareholder objection. I have worked for most major dailies and the first thing I did before putting pen to paper was to determine who my readers were. The second thing was to then try to make my boss more money by selling more papers. Did Murdoch or Fairfax like the colour of my eyes? No, they liked the colour of money! The truth is that my opinion matters no more than any other opinion; and anyway, what’s the use working for the Catholic Weekly promoting atheism? If the newspaper’s philosophy was alien to mine to the point of exasperation I simply found another newspaper! That’s the commercial world at work. But the ABC ain’t commercial and we shareholders have no say except with our vote to change governments and a hope that whoever we elect acts to protect our public Company from hostile takeovers.
