HEY! IS YOUR SITE STILL DOWN? Hello Dear Reader, in answer to your question, yes, the site is still down. But this is not the fault of the new hosting provider. Let me explain... When the New Hosting Provider (NHP) set up our new dedicated server, they built it based on the configuration of the server at the Old Hosting Provider (OHP). On Sunday we transferred all of the files over to the new server, and the NHP Linux team was doing the final configuration and checks to make sure everything was working correctly. Thats when my awesome team (and I do mean that in a non-sarcastic way) asked the important question; Why did we install a deprecated version of the Cent OS and PHP? Those systems arent supported anymore, and youd be better off - especially since one of your plug-ins requires a newer version of PHP - if we rebuilt the system using the right OS and software. For YEARS I had been asking the OHP to consider upgrading PHP to at least version 5.4, and each time I was told they wouldnt update it because it wasnt a stable version of the software. FYI, PHP is now up to v5.6, and the last time I had this conversation with my OHP was three months ago. You know how long it takes to upgrade to the new release of PHP? When I was on the phone with the NHP last night, the tech was able to do it in 30 seconds. In fact she finished deploying PHP 5.4 before I had a chance to finish my sentence asking how long it would take. So Monday, the team in charge of rebuilding the system cleared the system, rebuilt everything, and this morning we are once again transferring 100GB+ of data. My NHP is really great. They dont complain when I make a request, and are super understanding that I am not an IT person. They dont talk down to me, and dont make excuses as to why they cant/wont do something. Who is my NHP? Im not going to share that information until the site is up and running again... because, you know... Im gonna jinx myself again. Thanks again for your patience.
