HIGHLIGHTS FROM PRESIDENT PETER MUTHARIKAs INAUGURAL SPEECH TITLED “The will of the people” -Regrets that former President Joyce Banda has declined to hand over power to him. Banda is not in attendance. -He is for fresh and new politics We will have a new government, this is a new DPP. -No time for vengeance: Issues of his arrest for treason belong to the past. I have no intentions to revenge, its time to rebuild Malawi. -DPP govt will maintain a cabinet of 20, as a cost-cutting measure and as promised in the manifesto. -Veep Saulos Chilima is there to help grow private sector and champion Malawis business interests. -He is aware of the challenges facing rural masses on housing, food and other essentials. -On security-DPP govt will reinforce community policing and ensure military and police officers have adequate resources and even good uniforms. -FISP will now shift to bio-metric systems to curb corruption. He continues with zero-tolerance on corruption on all fronts. -Youths will be empowered and be a central arm of development. Same with the private sector. They are key to economic growth.
