HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Its a deviation - TopicsExpress

HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Its a deviation from the conventional exercise principle that weve been following for a very long time. Weve always believed that the longer we work out, the better results we are likely to get. Thanks to all the exercise researchers.. now its been proven that long runs and endless cardio training are not necessarily more effective. Whether you believe it or not, HIIT can be performed for less than 20 minutes and its just as effective as doing a 1 hour cardio. Gone are the days when gym rats have to spend almost 3 hours in the gym for a complete workout. How do you perform the HIIT? You would perform short bursts of exercise followed by short periods of rests every set. You dont usually count the repetitions but rather rely on a stop watch to prompt you when to stop and start the next set. Each set lasts for about 20-50 seconds followed by a 10-second rest for 9-12 sets depending on your fitness level. There are a lot of variations to HIIT but I prefer the 30-second go and 10-second rest ,12 sets. I would sometimes add weights in my HIIT training for more toning effect. This is just an overview of HIIT. I will be discussing more about its health benefits and more details on my next post. In the meantime, heres a video of a sample HIIT workout. Enjoy and Burn those old baby fats! ;)
