HILLSIDE HELPS- “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from Him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.”(Psalm 62:1-2) Waiting is one of the most difficult things for any of us to do. We are better at racing along in life running through stop signs and red lights, or picking the fruit before it is ripe. Because of the “instant” phenomenon we enjoy in our world, it is completely out of sorts to show patience. Just consider a few of these: Instant coffee, tea, cider, hot chocolate; instant rice or potatoes; instant relief offered in capsule form; or instant photography. What drives our “instant” world is a society of people who don’t have time to wait. Most are overworked, tired, and near exhaustion because of their fast-paced life style. The idea of waiting on anything, anywhere, at any time is out of the question, because we have become so busy. Now, add to that mix the design of God that requires for us to wait on Him and most are in real trouble. There are three kinds of people in life. Some people are movers and shakers. They make things happen by trudging forward regardless of the task, the time required, or the difficulty. Then, there are those that take life as it comes and just let things happen. Nothing seems to bother them. There doesn’t appear to be any outward signs of stress or impatience. The last group of people could care less what happens. The people of God have a responsibility in remaining faithful to Him and a be willing to wait on Him. This is not an easy path to follow, but it will be the one path that will provide safety and reward. God saved us to lead us. Therefore, we must be willing to wait patiently until such time as He makes the way known to us. This wait must not be like our “normal” waiting. In the grocery store, if the checkout line is too long to suit us, we are apt to push a buggy full of groceries all the way across the store in search of shorter lines. At the gas station, we do nutty things if the wait is too long, things like backing up and around in search of a free pump and running the risk of hitting someone or something. We are frustrated with the flow of traffic on the way home and take unknown exits and face the danger of breaking down in troubled neighborhoods and being harmed. God has a plan and time for everything He wills. Finding that plan should be a number one priority in your life. Then, be willing to wait without complaining as God opens the door and leads the way. He is our salvation physically and spiritually. Avoid the sin of taking shortcuts, for the consequences may be more difficult than you can imagine. Let each step be with Him. It will not be easy, but this is best. (Bro Jerry McNeer) PLEASE SHARE
