HINDSIGHT ROHIT SINGH RANA Geelani’s grand conspiracy - TopicsExpress

HINDSIGHT ROHIT SINGH RANA Geelani’s grand conspiracy theory Theories are made to be proved. No theory, how so ever great can become grand and fruitful, unless proved right on the touchstone of credibility and proof. Reason, why Kashmir is burning, courtesy the propagation of theories as well as stories which are beyond the logic or reason have been circled round and round with so much regularity that the general populace largely ignorant of the basic facts is made to believe as if some sinister monster, called India has gobbled up whole of Kashmir. One of the architects of falsehood and chicanery is the octogenarian hawk among separatists, Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The old man has been around for almost fifty years promoting hatred and separation from India. Whether he is mandated to do that is not known and who has given him the leeway to spit venom, is equally a riddle but the truth is that Geelani day in and day out spins new conspiracy theories about the State Government of Omar Abdullah with New Delhi being the choice target. After contributing to death and destruction in Kashmir in many ways the old hawk has tightened his girdle against some imaginary economic policies which he sees detrimental against his separatist trade. Interesting to see him turning into an economist of sorts and by the way if people like Naulakha or even Amartya Sen get any smell of the Geelani Economics, they too may join in the chorus and who knows could stand in his support in ample measure. The Geelani statement is not out of context to see through his machinations. “Government of India and its puppet regime in Jammu and Kashmir is leaving no stone unturned to weaken Kashmiris. This is a part of the conspiracy to suppress the ongoing movement of Kashmiris”. “JK is a conflict zone and the conglomerate won’t allow any new law or rule which is detrimental to people. We will resist the government move tooth and nail. I make a fervent appeal to traders and people to raise their voice against the diktat. The conglomerate will monitor the developments closely and if need arises formulate a programme to resist this anti-people move. We will also extend all support to any programme of the traders against the property tax.” Patent incitement to rebellion, the Geelani stamp on it sounds incredible. How can any government survive without resorting to steps which will shore up its finances? The State is already deriving huge funds from the Indian tax payer’s money, understandably if Omar Government is thinking of levying a property tax it seems plausible. This tax is common everywhere even in Islamic countries which the eighty plus diehard dreams to turn Kashmir into. Call it a medieval mindset or opposition to modernity or to a pragmatic step the reality is that the regressive mindset of separatists like him has turned the whole State into a cauldron of death, murder and mayhem. Geelani forgets that despite his virulent attack on India and the constitutionally elected government of Omar Abdullah, he still takes benefit of the large heartedness of Indian State which allows him security and monthly pension. Sounds double speak, if on one side the State apparatus is sought to be weakened and on the other, benefits are taken without a blink in the eye, not an elderly behavior at all. Geelani in yet another twist to facts has accused the State government of vandalising its natural resources for their “petty interests.” “Thousands of kanals of land across the state is under illegal occupation of Indian forces; our forests and water bodies have been vandalised in the name of so-called development. Our water resources have been sold and people have been left in lurch. Government of India and the State Government want to make people of Jammu and Kashmir fully dependent on them by weakening their economy and crush their movement.” Some facts will invert the Geelani logic. Not so long ago, area of Dal Lake was about 30 sq Km, now it has shrunk to less than one third. The land under saffron cultivation usually cultivated on Kerawa land called “Wuders” in Kashmiri has been reduced greatly. Housing colonies and paddy fields have been made out of prime saffron areas. Forests have shrunk and wild life is on rapid decline. Did anybody outside the State come and indulged in such a rampant loot of Kashmir’s natural resource. The people of Kashmir did it themselves. Instead funds poured in hundreds of millions to save Kashmir’s lakes and precious produce. Swindled whole scale were such generous grants from New Delhi and still Geelani cries over depletion of natural resources. If he has guts let him tell point blank to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, that population control is now an unavoidable contingency. He will not do it because it will overturn his other moorings. But if one is crying for natural resources, then the bitter truth of population explosion is always a great factor in this depletion. Truth is that, when the mental resources of old, elderly man given to play a foreign tune gets depleted, he either sees imaginary threats or forces people to chase mirages. Astoundingly, Geelani does all this under the Indian democracy and still runs away with it.
