HKUL Electronic Resources: On-campus - TopicsExpress

HKUL Electronic Resources: On-campus login ------------------------------------------- Subsequent to our email dated 28 August 2013, we would like to respond to the enquiries regarding the on-campus login arrangement: 1. Access from a non-HKUL website - Install the Bookmarklet on your web browser. A click on the Bookmarklet will automatically add the HKUL proxy string to the URL, facilitating seamless access to the E-resources. - Configure your Google Scholar settings and click "Find@HKUL" to get full text. For more details, please visit lib.hku.hk/general/research/e-access.html 2. Login once per session - On-campus access to HKUL E-resources requires a one-off login. Sessions in the same browser will only expire with timeout for inactivity, which is set to 60 minutes. The on-campus login has been implemented in view of the prevalence of excessive downloading and account abuse over the past few years. Many of these activities have resulted in the immediate blocking of access to resources, inconveniencing the HKU community at large. Upon review and approval at a Senate Library Committee Meeting, mandatory login is required for both on and off-campus users. With a more vigilant monitoring system, the Libraries can more efficiently stop excessive downloading activities and trace violators. We hope that the change will mean fewer service interruptions and better service provision for the university community.
