HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is recruiting solicitors and barristers to help shape the country’s tax laws and lead the fight against tax avoidance. Legal work at HMRC is challenging but rewarding. As an HMRC advisory lawyer you will have the opportunity to work in different teams on matters ranging from personal and business tax to criminal law issues. You will become a source of technical and public law expertise and are likely to be involved in advising on and drafting important legislation. As an HMRC litigation lawyer you will manage top-end cases before courts ranging from the Tax Tribunals to the Supreme Court. HMRC is looking for high potential and high calibre lawyers to join its team. Whether experienced or newly qualified, you will have a strong intellect, an ability to master new areas of law quickly and strong delivery and team-working skills. HMRC would particularly welcome lawyers with experience of tax and/or litigation. However, tax experience is not essential as full training will be provided. So instead of reducing tax, making the Tax regime simpler with a flat tax, Sir Jeremy Heywoods army of bureaucrats want more lawyers. The Immigration service is expanding its numbers as well.
