HOLLYWOOD THEATER BRINGS ‘MAGICAL UNIVERSE’ TO DORMONT Filmmaker Jeremy Workman to do Q&A at 11/12 Show The historic Hollywood Theater of Dormont is proud to present “Magical Universe,” a documentary from director Jeremy Workman that has garnered plenty of buzz this year on the festival circuit. The film’s stop in Dormont coincides with a visit from Workman, who will appear for one of the documentary’s viewings. “Magical Universe” has won prizes at the Woodstock Film Festival, Salem Film Fest and Las Vegas Film Festival, and it’s played at countless others, including DOC NYC, the Big Sky Film Festival and Hot Springs Film Festival. It’s also collected praise from media outlets like Time Lightbox, Filmmaker Magazine and the Huffington Post, which called it one of the 15 documentaries to watch out for this year. Workman’s doc gives viewers an in-depth look at the life of Al Carbee, a creative soul who spends his days making outlandish works of art featuring Barbie Dolls. Closing in on 90, the Maine man has spent most of his life putting these pieces together. Workman and his girlfriend, who, over time, developed a special bond with Carbee, discovered the artist. “Magical Universe” takes the viewer along for the ride in investigating Carbee’s work, the drive that lead him to establishing his creative side and the relationship he’s built with Workman. “Magical Universe” will be at the Hollywood Theater for four shows, including the final viewing at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12, which will have Workman introducing the documentary and doing a Q&A. To coincide with his visit, the theater will be giving away a signed theatrical poster from the film and raffling off three Limited Edition Al Carbee Official Barbie collages. Each collage is printed on art board from Carbees original master files. The schedule for the “Magical Universe” run is as follows: — 7:30 p.m., Nov. 7 — 3 p.m., Nov. 8 — 2 p.m., Nov. 11 — 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12, with introduction and Q&A with director Schedules are subject to change.
