HONORABLE BIRTHDAY MENTION: I just spoke about this band the other day. It was in 1943 that Denis DEll of The Honeycombs was born. DEll was born Dennis James Dalziel, the son of a lorry driver, in Stepney, east London, and trained as a signalman for British Railways. After winning a talent contest, he joined a local band, the Sheritons, which featured Martin Murray and Alan Ward on guitars, John Lantree on bass, and his sister, Anne Lantree, on drums. As Annes nickname was Honey and she and Murray were hairdressers (that is, combers), they became the Honeycombs. In the spring of 1964 their huge hit Have I The Right? was completed in three takes at the north London studio. He died after a battle with cancer on 6th July 2005. He was 61.
