HOW TO APPLY PROPHECY TO YOUR LIFE What is prayer? Prayer is an effective communication with the Lord. You ought to have FAITH when you pray. Prayer is a privilege and an honor as it is an investment in eternity. When we pray, we are fellowshipping with the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. WHY SHOULD WE PRAY? a) Prayer seasons and enriches our spirits as we get connected to the Lord’s ideas, visions and leading more easily in order to change the world. b) As we pray we make tremendous power available, causing changes in our favour. It enables us to change circumstances. c) Prayer provides a rich communion with the Lord. There are different types of prayers to be grouped in three and the first set that we will focus on is: 1) The prayer of faith 2) The prayer of petition THE PRAYER OF FAITH Our walk with God is a walk of faith (Romans 1:16-17). It is by faith that we were born again and received the God kind of life into our spirits, as the Bible says the just shall live by faith. The prayer of faith is significant as it involves making a request to God and speaking to circumstances in order to change them to our desires without doubting. We ought to have the God kind of faith in order to pray effectively. In Mark 11 v 22-24 Jesus said we shall move mountains as long as we BELIEVE. The key words here are “NOT DOUBTâ€, “BELIEVE†and “RECEIVEâ€. When you have no DOUBT, you have faith. When you BELIEVE, you have faith and for you to RECEIVE, it is because you have faith. You have not doubted and you have believed, so the only outcome to expect from your prayers is to RECEIVE. FAITH is important when we pray, for the Bible says faith is the substance of things hoped for. PRINCIPLES OF THE PRAYER OF FAITH 1) There must be a specific desire for one to pray the prayer of faith. You ought to have a clear and specific desire to pray; not just doing it as a routine or duty. Be specific! Remember Jesus said, “Whosoever shall say unto this mountain…†This means there is no negotiation or compromise with the mountain; you simply have to address the mountain and tell it what to do. 2) See the unseen (i.e. see the way God sees) You see the unseen through the eyes of faith because you can’t possess what you cannot see (2 Corinthians 4:14). See the way God sees and call them forth as though they exist – Romans 4 v 17. When you exercise your faith and you are convinced that you have it, even the devil cannot stop you from possessing it. 3) Use your evidence Faith is the evidence of things not seen. You must be able to recognize that evidence before you can use it. Faith is the evidence that substantiates the future. Faith is the ASSURANCE; the evidence and proof of things we cannot see – the conviction of their reality. As you pray, the Holy Spirit will put an utterance in your mouth or bring a song to your spirit that will result in great rejoicing within you. Study the Word of God and find out what He says about your peculiar situation. 4) Don’t doubt after you have prayed. Doubt makes us keep asking for the same thing over and over again for fear of not being heard the first time. With the prayer of faith the rule is YOU SHOULD BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED WHEN YOU PRAY which makes it differ from other kinds of prayers like the prayer of intercession, where repetitiveness is necessary; each time you repeat your request in the prayer of faith, you invalidate your previous request. Don’t struggle with doubt. Romans 10:10 says, ‘’…with the heart of man believeth unto righteousness.†DEALING WITH DOUBT Dealing With Doubt in Your Spirit Doubt means being double minded. When you doubt, you become unstable in all your ways (James 1:6-8). The more you put your faith to work, the stronger it becomes. You exercise your faith by acting on the Word. What You Say Is What You Get It is important to remain consistent with the right confession. A man believes with his heart unto righteousness and confesses with his mouth unto salvation. You can only enjoy the benefits of salvation when you are saved. As you make your demands through the prayer of faith, never forget to employ the instrument of confession. Words are powerful! KNOW YOUR PART AND DO IT There is an act of obedience that God requires of us. When you are in sync with the Holy Spirit, He will show you what your role is and you ought to be diligent to play your part. When you have the Holy Spirit in you, you can confidently declare God’s Word in faith and get the results you want. You need to have fellowship with the Holy Spirit in order to accomplish this. HEARING FROM GOD You ought to have COMMUNION, which means partnership, communication and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. With this, you will be able to talk to Him and listen to Him; that way you will know what He wants from you. God has given us the power to effect changes in our lives. THE PRAYER OF PETITION (1 Timothy 2:1) Praying According to the Will of God Praying according to His will is the key ingredient for success in the prayer of petition (John 5:14-15). It matters how we ask. It ought to be consistent with God’s stipulated pattern (John 16:23-24&26). The Father loves us unconditionally and all He wants is for us is to ask according to His will and His will for asking is asking the Father in the Name of Jesus. EARNEST, HEARTFELT, CONTINUED PRAYER The prayer of petition is earnest, heartfelt and continued. Being earnest means being intent and specific in purpose, to be zealous and fervent, marked by a deep feeling of conviction. An earnest prayer touches your heart and gets a hold of your emotions. It entails persistence and continuance that produces tremendous power. In James 5:17-18, Elijah made a prayer of petition. Continue Until There Is Change Elijah prayed the prayer of petition until there was a change (1 Kings 18:42). You don’t have to wait for pressures to mount up before you raise a prayer alarm. Pressing the panic buttons by praying fast and expecting fast answers like the fast foods and fast cars is not the right way of praying. The prayer of petition is required in situations beyond your personal control – circumstances dictated or influenced by forces beyond you. In other instances where you desire something or a change outside your personal ability to control, you must pray the prayer of petition. God invites us to bring forth our arguments and strong reasons in pleading our cases (Isaiah 43:26). Present the statements of facts, promises and declarations He has made concerning the matter at hand. Acts 4:24-31 is an example of the prayer of petition. We also have Hannah who brought her strong reasons why she needed a child (1 Samuel chapter 1). Turn Your Closet into a Courtroom The prayer of petition is rendered with tenacity and strong purpose. You don’t take “NO†for an answer! You can plead your case in your closet until you know you have gotten what you want and nothing in the world can take it from you. Don’t Stop At The Prophecy! You ought to use the prophetic word to continue in prayer. The prayer of petition also brings forth a strong anointing. We have been given power in the Holy Ghost to effect changes and nothing can stop us, for we have unlimited influence through the prayer of petition. Prayer Thank You Father for Your Word is at work in me and it never fails. I declare the manifestation of Your Word in my life, for I walk by faith and not by sight. I glorify Your Holy Name, for I have the Holy Spirit in me – my Guide, my Advocate, my Counselor and my Extraordinary Strategist. I walk with boldness because the Holy Spirit guides me and I am diligent in playing my part. Thank you Father in Jesus mighty Name. Amen! You Are The Prophet of Your Life: The Lord carried Ezekiel away in the spirit to a valley which was full of dry bones. To Ezekiel, it was a hopeless situation. Then the Lord asked him, “Can these bones live?†And he replied, “Lord, it’s up to You.†That’s what we say to God sometimes when He ask us, “Can these things change?†We tell Him it’s up toHim; if He wants things to change, they will, and if He doesn’t, they’ll remain the way they are. That’s not true! If God were running everything and running everyone’s life the way many of us think He is, then He certainly has everything in a mess. He’s not running everything. The fact is that many people are running their own lives, and many others have handed the reins of their lives to the devil. If you study the Bible, you’ll see that He has actually given us the power to influence our destiny, to control our future and whatever happens to us in life. You can actually affect your life, your future and your own world. So,whatever becomes of you is really up to you! Prophesy and Don’t Curse : You can speak God’s Word concerning you and the things you’re involved with. You can also speak God’s Word concerning the church. Don’t curse or say the wrong things about the church. You’re a part of thechurch and whatever you say about the church will reflect on you and affect your life. For example, don’t say the church is weak and in need of revival. No! Why don’t you prophesy instead that the power of God is going to move in the church? Talk about the wind of God’s Spirit that’s going to blow through the church because He said, “In the last days, I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh.†You ought to declare that things are working out right in the church because the Spirit of God is moving in her! Prophesy about Your Life and Your Future: You have to learn to prophecy to your life and your future. You need to know this: Your future is in your mouth. You’re fully responsible for your future; nobody else is. There are no limits to what you can imagine and make out of your life. That’s because God has set the world (that means all of eternity) in the hearts of men (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Every time you speak about your life or your future, you’re actually prophesying. The only problem is you may have been a “false prophet.†Romans 3:4 says, “God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.†So, if God has said something about you and you’ve been saying something else, then you’ve been lying. You’ve made yourself a false prophet over your own life! For instance, if God has said you’re a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17) and your path is as a shinning light, that shines brighter and brighter unto the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18), and you say, “I don’t feel like one, I don’t think I am. I think I need to be born again all over again. I dont understand my life anymore. My future looks so bleak and hopeless. I’m not living; I’m merely existing,†then you’re lying. You’ve made yourself into a false prophet. Chart Your Course with Your Mouth: The Bible says the captain of a great ship controls that massive ship with a small helm, and compares that helm to the tongue. It says though the tongue is a little member, it boasts great things (James 3:5). Put your tongue to work and let it bring forth great things in your life. As small as your tongue is, it’s the most powerful member in your body. Your tongue can take you either to heaven or to hell. It can make you rich or poor, put new clothes on your back or dress you up in rags. It all depends on how you use it. Now, if you don’t use your tongue at all, dont think nothing will happen; something will still result from that. You know there’s no such thing as a clean piece of farmland waiting to be cultivated. If the farmer doesn’t sow something in the farm, it would grow something by itself; something unwanted – weeds. So, when you say, “Whatever will be, will be,†that’s like you saying, “Well, I’ve cleared this piece of land, whatever can grow there should grow.†You can be sure what’s going to grow there wont be nice. You can use your tongue to programme yourself for a successful and tremendous life or a life full of grief and regrets. Talk More Than You Eat: You talked yourself to the place you’re in right now and you can talk your way forward from here. Your mouth was given to you to say what you want in your life. Stop talking about the things you see in the physical; they wont change that way. Say what you want instead! When you say what you want, you’re functioning rightly and using your mouth for the purpose for which it was designed. In Romans 10:10, Paul declares that “with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.†This means that with your mouth, you make the “confessions†(in Greek, this is “homologia†which means, saying the same thing as God) that catapult you into salvation. If you want to move from point A to point B, you’re going to have to talk yourself there. You’ve got to keep saying it. In fact, you’ve got to “talk†more than you eat or drink! Your mouth wasn’t given to you just for eating, drinking and talking to and about other people. Use it to talk your future. · Prayer: I refuse to fear. I see things changing for the best. I am fully persuaded that my God is able to perform that which He has spoken concerning me. Therefore, I refuse to stagger at His Word and I remain strong in faith, giving glory to God. My health is blossoming; my finances are increasing. I see progress. I see my prosperity. I see my promotion. I see it. Glory to God!
