HOW TO WALK IN UNITY Ephesians 4 v 29: Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. If you are going to walk in unity, you can’t speak corrupt words. Train yourself to use the right language when talking to and about others. Verse 30 of the same scripture portion says, “Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” The Amplified translation of Ephesians 4 vs. 29 says, ‘Let no foul or polluting language; or evil words nor unwholesome or worthless talk ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others’ (Amp). You should not be known for foolish talk. Don’t allow corrupt communication come out of your mouth. If you don’t want bad words or foul language coming out of your mouth, then meditate on the right things because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Meditate continually on the Word of God because what you have is what you can give. You can’t have foul language in your heart and speak good language; but if you have the Word of God in your heart, that’s what is going to come out of you. Every time you open your mouth, it’s going to be to say something good and it will minister grace because your heart is settled on grace. Corrupt communication, foul language and unwholesome/worthless talk grieve the Holy Spirit. Your language should be humble and devoid of pride and arrogance. Ephesians 4 vs. 31: Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and evil speaking be put away from you with all malice. Sometimes there are people who want to be nice to those who are nice to them, but Jesus taught that if you only do good to those who do good to you, why should God praise you? There’s no difference between such a person and a publican (He used the word publican to refer to sinners in Matthew 5:46-48). Bitterness is not seen in the face; it’s in the heart and is revealed when we speak. The Amplified version says: “Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath, (passion rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarrelling (brawling, clamor contention) and slander (evil speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you with all malice.” When you get bitter about people, you’ll later begin to slander them, and say things about them that are not really nice and true. You’ll stretch their offences and that will lead to sinning against God. God wants us to be different and He wants us to act like Him; as the Scriptures say, He lets the rain fall on the good and the evil, and lets His sun shine on the just and the unjust. God wants us to be nice to people who are not nice to us. This is about the manifestation of righteousness and the life of Christ in us; it’s not about how others have set a standard for us. Ephesians 4 vs. 32: Be ye kind one to another tender hearted forgiving one another even as God for Christ sake has forgiven you. God tells us what to get rid of in our lives, and also what we need to add. The Amplified version of the Bible says, ‘Become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tender hearted, (companionate, understanding, loving hearted) forgiving one another (readily and freely) as God in Christ forgave you’. Make up your mind that you’ll be useful, helpful and kind to others; and when people offend you, just forgive them, as God in Christ Jesus forgave you. Meditating on this entire portion of Scripture (Ephesians 4: 21-30) will change your life, build your spirit and help you in your growth. Hallelujah FURTHER STUDY: Ephesians 4:21-32
