#HS2 #Environmental Consultation Have You Responded? The Government is asking people to have their say on the environmental impact of HS2. Theyve published an Environmental Statement, which sets out the environmental impacts of HS2 in the #Chilterns area. Reading this document sets out in depressing detail what would happen should current plans for HS2 proceed: nine years of construction, destruction of ancient woodland, traffic jams on the A413, over three million cubic metres of spoil dumped permanently in the AONB and noise and visual impacts comparable to a major motorway. The report also makes clear the adverse effects will be felt in a wide area across the Chilterns. But it doesnt have to be this way-local groups have come together to push the case for a tunnel through the Chilterns. The Governments own Environmental Statement indicates that these proposals are both far superior environmentally and feasible from an engineering perspective. The Government is now asking for your views. If we want a tunnel, it is vital that there is a huge response from people showing their support for these proposals. But hurry-responses must be in by 10th February 2014. Responding is easy. You can respond to the consultation via email. Simply copy and paste the message below, insert your name and address and send to HS2PhaseOneBillES@dialoguebydesign Dear Mr McLoughlin and Mr Cameron You are asking people to have their say on the environmental impact of Phase 1 of HS2. I am writing to let you know that I think the HS2 Ltds current plans for the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are unacceptable as they will do enormous and irreparable harm to this unique national asset. Your Government must accept its responsibility to properly protect this unique are with appropriate mitigation in the form of the longest possible tunnel, throughout the entire AONB. HS2 Ltds own consultants have confirmed such proposals are technically feasible and the HS2 Environmental Statement confirms that it would be far better environmentally. Please do the right thing and authorise a full tunnel for the Chilterns AONB. This is my response to the Phase 1 Environmental Statement Consultation. Yours sincerely [insert your name and address] Remember anyone living in the UK can respond to this consultation so please encourage friends and family to have their say too. Thanks for your support and please make sure you encourage everyone you know to respond by February 10th 2014
