Portuguese 1 consists of the following elements of the language: speaking, listening, reading, writing and cultural awareness. The course is the first in a program designed to provide students with the language skills necessary for effective communication in Portuguese. It will prepare students for Portuguese 2: Novice - High. A sample of the language structures to be covered include: gender and number for nouns articles, adjectives, pronouns; regular verbs in the present tense; irregular verbs, prepositions indicating place and direction, the negative form and near future. During the course, the student will gain the language and language-learning skills necessary to achieve a novice-high level of proficiency.
