HWN LOCAL NEWS: The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has said that it will henceforth ensure that only In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVDs) equipment that meet international standards are manufactured, imported and used in Nigeria. Anthony Emeribe, NILSN registrar who revealed this on Friday in a statement signed by Fidelia Ginikanwa, the council’s Head of Corporate Affairs, said the decision was part of the council’s efforts to check the dumping of fake and substandard IVDs in the country. According to him, the decision is part of efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services in the country as well as part of its regulatory functions enunciated in Act 11, 2003 (Cap M4LRN 2004). Emeribe pointed out that the production and distribution of IVDs are too pivotal to quality diagnosis to be left unregulated. "Apparently, the current state of medical laboratory services sector is somewhat chaotic, which is unacceptable," he said.
