Habakkuk 2:3-4 (Common English Bible) 3 There is still a vision - TopicsExpress

Habakkuk 2:3-4 (Common English Bible) 3 There is still a vision for the appointed time; it testifies to the end; it does not deceive. If it delays, wait for it; for it is surely coming; it will not be late. 4 Some people’s desires are truly audacious; they don’t do the right thing. But the righteous person will live honestly. Living Audaciously Audacious is one of those words that can mean different things. One synonym is brave while another is impudent or foolish. Habakkuk’s meaning seems to be that people are living impudently, riskily, cheekily, or insolently. I’ve been all of these more times then I care to remember. It appears that more of us prefer to live audaciously for the wiles of the world rather than courageously for God’s kingdom. Habakkuk advises us to wait for the time when people will step up and live courageously, bravely for God. In my life time I have seen the trend going in the opposite direction. People are living more boldly when it comes to taking unnecessary risks to life and limbs – not to mention damage done to their soul. Fewer are willing to stand firmly in the right for justice and peace. How can I live audaciously for God when there are times I fear standing up to the leaders of my church who seem to going in the wrong direction? How can I live courageously for God when I fear the consequences such actions might bring upon me? The better question is: How can I not be audacious for God and still be a Christian? Prayer: God of courage; God of love; I need a dose of your Spirit – that spirit which will raise me to a new level of audaciousness for you. Remove my doubts and show me what is right – not only for me but for all people. Amen.
