Had a brief meeting last week with Andrew Pochan, Artistic Director (pictured center holding the art piece) of a new arts project called RAiL - Reading Arts in Local Motion. Please watch this WFMZ news report and read the following quote from Andrew. Dear Artists; I’m writing to share a major art opportunity that is coming together this Summer to support a Fall Launch. As you may have heard, Reading Arts in Local Motion (RAiL), a project of the Reading Railroad Museum, is a collaborative effort between Reading Film (Greater Reading Convention & Visitors Bureau) and the Greater Reading Alliance of Community Theatres, that preserves the Reading Railroads historical legacy by showcasing the diverse and quality of arts in Greater Reading. The one-sheet for this program is attached additional information is available on our RAiL Facebook page. We’re looking for your support for Phase 1 of RAiL, which is to have community artists transform one of the Railroad museums antique boxcars into a stage and theatre to support a multi-media; multi disciplinary theatrical event at the Hamburg Reading Railroad Heritage Museum at the end of October. We need individuals and groups of artists to contribute to this event. Specifically: · To participate in a half day brainstorming and concept development session (early August at the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum) · To create the work itself to decorate the boxcar (September- October) · Engagement of students and apprentices to assist with the art (August- October) · Event support: Weekend of October 24-26 Our current focus is on the October event, but the intent of the RAiL is to have an ongoing venue for the visual and performing arts and to be able to move art into the Berks County communities.
