Had a great 2.5 hours at our Great Indiana State Fair today. Perfect weather for a visit, but I think I was joined by everyone else in the state!! I have never been to the fair when it was been this crowded. I wasn’t able to visit some of the smaller exhibit buildings, like the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources, where the fish are displayed. Far too crowded. You could not get in to see anything. Also surprised to find that none of the ponds outside of that building were stocked with fish as they normally are. Did get to visit the Exhibition Hall and get my yearly supply of dip mixes from a booth that always seems to be there. Also stopped by the DVD booth in the hall and found some gems that you cannot get anywhere else. I did not purchase anything, but I did get their business card for my purposes and also to help out customers at B&N. The people who own this booth seem to have a knack for getting DVDs that are not available elsewhere in the U.S. Again they had Disney’s “Song of the South” available for purchase. We have not been able to get it at B&N. Apparently, these folks get their DVDs of the movie from Great Britain. This year they had two DVDs that I will either go back and get before the fair closes or order from the later. I haven’t seen them for sale anywhere else and want them bad. One is Disney’s “The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh” starring Patrick McGoohan. I have only seen this available on YouTube. The other DVD is “Cinderella” starring Leslie Ann Warren and Celeste Holm. It is the only version of R&H’s musical that you cannot get through a regular retailer. We have tried at B&N, but to no avail. Got to visit most the livestock except for the World’s Largest Boar and Sow. Too crowded around their area to even get into the building. Also missed getting a very liquid cowpie dropped on my foot by a passing angus!! Luckily the little girl in front of me, who was wearing flip flops, missed it too and the other cowpies already on the floor. I got my Lemon Shakeup, ear of corn, pork burger and a sweetened tea to go. Not a great lover of sweetened tea, but I could not find any concession stand selling unsweetened tea. Lastly, for a fair that is touting this as the Year of Popcorn and displaying the World’s Largest Popcorn Ball, it is surprising that I found only one vendor selling popcorn!! Be a good Hoosier and visit the fair!
