Had a great weekend! Almost all results I was hoping for came true - North beating Geelong, Richmond beating Hawthorn, Collingwood beating Essendon and a nice warm up match for my Swans. On Saturday, I umpired Old Trinity vs Caulfield Grammarians at Trinity. During training mid-week, I discovered that the reason for my bad throws was being too quick from the squatting position. After fixing this, I had a great throwing day with 1 going a bit left and 2 that flicking off the fingers in a helicopter motion. The most pleasing aspect was the fact that I threw predominantly against a huge breeze. Trinity, as always, was a hard ground to run. In the first quarter, I felt I struggled to keep pace as some kicks were travelling around 60-70m from half back. I adjusted in the second quarter and tactically always favoured the right side of the contests (wind was blowing strongly left to right down the middle of the ground). Marco Creek, the other boundary umpire, left me for dead in the footraces. I rarely made it to the goalposts before he did. I give myself 8/10 for that performance.
