Had a nice discussion with Evelyn Jordan Wood about growing up on Ohio Street and that gave me an idea for a discussion topic here. What are your memories of growing up in your Bangor neighborhood. who were your childhood friends? As for me, Ohio Street near Coe Park was a wonderful neighborhood to grow up in..sliding down Highland Avenue in winter on our Flexible flyers, building tunnels in the snow banks and crawling through them until we were soaking wet, selling kool aid on the street and feeling rich when we made 17 cents, having out-of-school parties in the yard next to the house with the neighborhood kids, coming home from the library in summer loaded with books wed read on blankets in the yard, and playing from morning til late afternoon in Coe Park. A large empty cardboard refrigerator box was cause for great joy...It became the clubhouse for the .the C and C Club, so-named because the founders names were Cormier and Cutter. The photo below shows me with three of my best neighborhood pals, the Cutter children, who were our landlords kids and who grew up in the apartment below ours at 134 Ohio. We were standing in the driveway of our home, modeling the hula skirts we made from broad leafed plants that grew near our house. Im third from left. The other kids are (l to r) Bruce, Kristen (Cookie) And Kimberley Cutter.
