Had a tremendously enjoyable gig last night at ace promoter Pete Feenstras excellent Real Music Live Stormy Monday Club at The Bulls Head in Barnes, London, England. Was a bit alarmed on our arrival to see a chalkboard advertising JAZZ with the Sarah McQuaid Band, and even more alarmed to see another chalkboard (see photo at https://facebook/sarahmcquaidmusic/photos/10152584148134016 ) listing me followed by the next nights act, the Humphrey Lyttelton Band. In view of the fact that Humphrey Lyttelton died in 2008, my head was suddenly sent spinning: had I already died and failed to realise it? Would the Sarah McQuaid Band turn up and totally ignore me, to my great annoyance, until a small child with dark troubled eyes appeared and said I see dead people? Thankfully, that proved not to be the case and it was a lovely place to play, gorgeous room (although if they have me back -- which I sincerely hope they will -- Ill wear black next time -- my red dress matched the curtains behind me a little too closely, as you can see from the photo!) and a really nice bunch of people. Great big thanks to Pete for booking me, to Bob for running the door and generally looking after the evening, to Val for setting up the PA, and to Alex the barman for keeping me topped up with hot water and lemon all evening -- not very rock and roll but I was fighting off a sore throat. So nice to have Martins former bandmates Ben and Lawrence there with their respective other halves, Amy and Shelley, as well as a secondary school classmate of mine, Susan Cummings, whom I hadnt seen in more years than I care to mention! Big thanks also to top bass player Glynn Evans for dropping in, an honour to have him in the audience! We were staying the night with Ben and Amy (huge thanks to them for putting us up), so we gave them a lift back to their place -- only problem being that the van has just three seats. Consequently, Ben had to sit on the floor in the back -- see photos attached of him snuggled between my guitar and boxes of CDs! … Now were in Tewkesbury, where Im playing tonight in the upstairs bar of the Roses Theatre, Tewkesbury. Am typing this in my cosy dressing room down in the bowels of the main theatre, must finish up pronto and get that red dress back on again. Throat still sore but Ive got a mug of hot water and lemon to help me along. Tomorrow, Im glad to say, is a day off, which were looking forward to spending with our wonderful friends (and hosts for the next two nights) Pete Peewee Coleman Composer for Film,TV and Media and Clare Hines.
