Had an interesting conversation with my sister Fuarosa - TopicsExpress

Had an interesting conversation with my sister Fuarosa yesterday….she tried to introduce me into some wonderful business opportunity that would eventually become a promising investment for the future…. in my mind I was hoping she would say “miraculously make you a millionare overnite??!!”Lol But as I was listening to all the significant details and numbers…I was honestly wondering sarcastically…”Okay how many among us beautiful pacific islanders would possibly maintain $50,000.00 locked up in our savings accounts…???” Fine, I won’t answer that…but with my Tongan-Samoan pride running strong through my veins…I would kill somebody if anyone tries to expose my $40 dollar savings account!! For as much as I know growing up in the islands…pacific islanders don’t naturally save up for rainny days…we usually save for beautiful weddings, majestic funerals, birthday celebrations, graduations and other honorable festivities. Most believe by throwing a big majestic feast with countless numbers of piglets, horses & cows executed…usually displays beefy strength of character & power in honor of culture. Which may very well be true…but never mind the regular day to day hunger…we always manage to survive with very little means & continue to keep our heads above water with kataki pride! Luckily families & relatives from overseas have always been able to acommodate for the food shortages. And the greatest news about the increased number of children per household, they do guarantee a very promising life insurance once we all become whopply and old. So there be warned my dear tropical friends…you really can’t run or hide…for this very purpose you were born!! Lol I definitely salute my dearest sister Fuarosa who has willingly taken our father under her loving care! I know it’s no easy task and it takes a lot of enduring love, understanding and patience…to weather all the mental, financial & emotional part of it. The worst part about being your own dad’s caregiver…you naturally become the most irritating enemy in his eyes … because you play the “bad guy” role of telling him what’s strictly expected according to Doc’s orders and restrict him from consuming all of his favourite foods. I just simply want to say…that I sincerely admire & envy all of those who are taking care of their own folks at home. Working as a caregiver I know this to be true! I’ve dedicated 15 yrs of caregiving service for numerous people as a life long income, but never really performed this heaven sent duty to my own folks…feel so blessed to have 6 other siblings to cover on my behalf.
