Had chirping in the pipes upon turning on and off the water in various places in the house. It started a long time ago with the hose bib outside, but recently started happening with the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Research online found that sometimes the air buffer columns can fill with water over time, and so the way to fix it is turn off all the water at the mains and open the faucets in the highest and lowest points in the house (lowest to drain, obviously), replacing water with air. Then, close everything back up and turn on the water again, running each faucet and allowing the air out of the system. Looks like it did the trick. (The pipe feeding hose bib was probably improperly attached to the stud, and so it vibrates when you run it; repairing that will be costly, and probably wont get done.)
