Had this text from an online client today. Dad is insisting he take me out for dinner tonight. Trying to figure out how to make that happen? Order only a salad? Bring my scale? Any suggestions? I am happy that my client asked me this and thats why they all have my cell # and are encouraged to text/call 24/7. As you know I recommend tracking macros and being flexible when it comes to nutrition and this is all in context to your goals. If youre a competitor or plan on getting in like shape or that low of a body fat percent being precise and on point consistently with your macros is a must, you can still be flexible and social within your goals though. For the individual that doesnt plan on being stage lean you typically will have more leeway and flexibility in your macro goals thats why I typically recommend ranges, of course daily adherence is still a must for your best results. Now to the main point of this post, what is flexible about bringing a scale to dinner? Or going out to only get a salad? Nothing. My advice was to enjoy yourself, make smart choices and have fun. Why? Because this isnt a daily/weekly event and on top of that one meal out will not make or break your fitness goals if you make smart choices and if youre consistent the rest of the time. On top of that you should enjoy life and there is nothing enjoyable about being a macro Nazi. Tracking macros can being taken to the extreme just like obsessive clean eating, neither is healthy, so have balance. Be flexible, enjoy life, and make smart choices. -Coach Thomas
