Had to remind myself of this yesterday while Jay had one of his meltdowns. As I sat on the floor in the bathroom with him, he screamed, kicked, punched, threw things and yelled things no 4 year old should know. NO I did not leave, NO I did not hit him back, NO I do not want your advice. I did what has worked for me, defend myself, try to make sure he doesnt get hurt AND repeat how much I LOVE him and that I will NOT leave him, no matter what. When all is said and done and he finally crawls into my lap, we cry together and I tell him he is safe, he is loved and mommy will always be here for him. Then we cuddle in bed and once he is calm I can speak to him about what happened, how he can do it differently and I thank God these are getting fewer and further between.
