Hafa adai, friends yan familia! Thank you so very much for your well wishes and kind words and prayers for my mom, Lucy. After two surgeries on Friday and Saturday mom is recovering and well enough to sit up for the first time today. Her doctors anticipate 6 days of healing before a decision on Sunday on how to proceed with her next surgery, possibly on Monday. e first surgery took 6 hours and was to repair the damage to her shoulders and arms. Those were thand e sights of the 3rd degree burns. The second surgery was to repair the broken lumbar vertebrae L1. They inserted support pins to the two vertebrae above and below it. Weve received a picture of the class of 67 from Robert Cruz, a beautiful statue from sisters Rose Franquez Cruz and Therese Franquez Tenorio, books and balloons from Bev Susuico and Gerri Quintanilla, a phone from Auntie Lenora Wynn for me to use and for mom to begin speaking to her friends. Her first visitors Auntie Rose and Uncle Joe Cruz, Auntie Emily and Uncle Robert, Uncle Patsy and Uncle Roland, Martha Campos, June Aguon, Bob and Lou Maanao, Laura and her boys, Tony Leon Guerrero and calls of encouragement from Joe Mesa in Las Vegas. My uncle Vito and Auntie Nora have driven across the region twice to be with mom. Please accept my apologies if you have been, or felt, offended by my familys calls for patience in visiting our mom, but her wounds were significant and the initial days of recovery were most important after the unique combination of burns and multiple injuries. The past several days have been in reflection of the long road ahead and her realization of, not just how much she lost in the fire but how much she still has in loving family and friends. She loves her new life in Washington and her crew here, they take care of each other. If youre wanting to visit mom before her next round of surgeries, shed love to see you this week! Good Bless and Si Yuos Maase! You may call me from 8a to 8p Pacific Standard Time or text 253-363-1032
