Hai kodwa, I really dont understand why race is such a touchy issue amongst my generation (an those that follow). Ur Black!! Ur Coloured!! Ur White!! Whether you love it or hate it, thats just how it is people (well, as long as your in this country). You dont see colour!? Or You dont want to be boxed!? Thats cool, but remember that not everybody understands (or really cares about) ur personal philosophy. People, I understand that we come from a racially discriminatory background, which has led up to the racial tense society that we have inherited and indeed experience on a day to day basis. But what I do not understand is why we are so touchy about our race, in general. Maybe I sound insensitive or even stupid to some but get where Im coming from. I grew in a family where I was taught to celebrate my blackness (or rather Africanness), to look at it as a gift and also recognise how it separates me from others. Not making me better, not making me lesser, not even necessarily equal but making me unique and making me realise and understand our differences as people. I am a Xhosa man. NdingumNtande, uDlomo, uSopitsho, uYemYem, uMadiba ozalwa nguMaqhuden, uThukelo.... I could go on, but the point Im trying to make is that everywhere I go, every obstacle Im faced with, I face with that in the back of my mind. This has made me stronger and more confident to say what I need to say when I need to, without fear in my heart. I find that a lot of us have problem with race because we only think about it in relation to another or as a response to another, but this shouldnt be the case. Take pride in who you are and where you come from and I promise you itll change your perspective about a lot of things, particularly those which are race related.
