Half-a-dozen cops hurt in gunfight in #Srinagar, Top LeT Comm Traped #DefenceScan Report At least six policemen were reported to have been injured in a gunfight between militants and forces in Srinagar outskirts, late Wednesday, sources said. Sources said the gunfight started after police and paramilitaries cordoned off #Ahmad Nagar area in the outskirts of the Srinagar city, the summer capital of #Jammu and Kashmir. “there was prior information about the presence of militant in the area. So #Counter Insurgency wing of Police and #Central Reserve Police Force cordoned off the area and launched searches,” police sources added. The forces started search operation at around 7:45 PM and conducted house to house searches following reports of presence of militants. At around 10:00 PM, militant fired on forces and lobbed four grenades, sources said. In the initial assault by militants, policeman Ashiq Hussain sustained bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital. As the gunfight raged eight policemen including a sub-inspector were injured, sources said. Highly placed sources said that a top Commander of the #Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit is among those two to four militants trapped inside a house.
