Halfway through what may be the most important book, second to the Holy Scriptures, Ive ever read; The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Ive often seen it referred to as one of the greatest literary works of the 19th century. Im glad that I waited until after my entering the Eastern Orthodox Church to read it. There is such light and truth in the words of the character Elder Zosima. Its truly helping me to understand the pre-Augustinian view of salvation, which the Eastern church has always held. This book reveals the light of Christ amid an unflinching backdrop of evil and hardship.
