Halifax Community College (HCC) honored 10 Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) graduates during a pinning ceremony, September 2, 2014 at the Scotland Neck Town Hall Auditorium. This project was a joint effort between Regeneration Development Group, HCC, Our Community Hospital and the Town of Scotland Neck. Funding for tuition and supplies was granted by the NC Department of Commerce-Rural Economic Development Division and the Golden LEAF Foundation. The CNA program prepares individuals to work under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals in performing nursing care and services to patients in a hospital, nursing facility or home care agency. “You’ve chosen a worthy field,” said Our Community Hospital CEO Tom Majure. “You will improve the quality of life for people you take care of.” “This is just the beginning,” said HCC Workforce & Economic Development Division Acting Dean Tamba O. Thompson. “The best is yet to come. Take this experience and build upon it.” HCC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Deryl Davis Fulmer commented on the fact that nursing aides are in demand in the workplace. “The job outlook is better than average,” she said. Kim A. Stallings, Administrator of Scotland Manor Health Care Center in Scotland Neck gave each CNA a beautiful gift bag.
