Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to wise up to boat fires and carbon monoxide (CO) risks. As part of the national Fire Kills campaign Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Boat Safety Scheme are asking local boat owners to make vital safety checks and learn more about fire and carbon monoxide risks to stay safe this summer. The message, timed for the start of the boating season, is that owners should understand the risks, make regular, basic checks, and follow their engine and appliance operating guidelines, as the essential steps to deal with the fire and carbon monoxide threat. During Boat Fire Safety Week, Hampshire firefighters will be talking to thousands of boat owners across Hampshire handing out leaflets to alert people to the risks and help them protect themselves and their passengers. • On Tuesday 27 May from 19:00 - 21:00 firefighters and the police are holding an event at Hythe Parish Hall, West street in Hythe to give out safety advice. • On Thursday 29 May and Friday 30 May firefighters will be going along to Hill Head Sailing Club and Fareham Sailing club. • Firefighters will be going along to Emsworth Yacht Harbour to give out leaflets and advice. • Firefighters from St Marys Fire Station will be visiting house boats throughout the week and putting them forward for home safety visits. For home safety visits on house boats please call our Community Safety department on 02380 626809 bit.ly/1k8rzNY
