Hands up, Dont shoot they chanted while stopping traffic, as they marched on the courthouse. People yelled their opinions, and causing my nearly 6 year old to ask some very good questions requiring delicate answers from me. Our Police Officers barricading streets, escorting the protestors. Protecting them from the less-than-courteous drivers that generally dont stop for pedestrians who dont obey the accepted traffic rules. Allowing them their freedom to protest. Weve been working with Rylee on making good choices. Its so hard to explain the nuances of humanity to a 6 year old. Why do people make bad choices, especially when those choices hurt other people? We all are capable of making bad choices, even otherwise good people. What is undoubtedly a bad choice is to follow-up a bad choice with bad choices. Because one person, or a people, chose to react poorly should not determine that we ourselves also react poorly. No ones actions *make* us act any one way. We ought not be so concerned with the actions and reactions of others - but of our own. Im disappointed in the stupidity of people. Seattle is a long ways from Ferguson, MO - yet we have people charging the police and running onto the freeway last night, probably due to classic group-think and just going along with the crowd, especially with Macklemore in their midst. 5 minutes of fame, and it really didnt have anything to do with the message they claim to be sending.
