Hank describes this: The name of the piece is Black Pastels .. also the name of this group. Its the title track from my first CD, entitled Black Pastels on JMT Records (now Winter & Winter). I wrote this in the summer of 1976 sitting with my cello in my apartment in central square, Cambridge Massachusetts, while watching Sugar Ray Leonard in the summer Olympics on TV. Hank tells me (below) that the trombonist playing the beautiful duet with Bill Frisell on guitar (starts around 5:50) is Ray Anderson.
