Hans Rosling and Bill Gates were the first to make me realise how - TopicsExpress

Hans Rosling and Bill Gates were the first to make me realise how bright the future potential of this world is but these guys also do a great down and dirty job at reinforcing it in their crash course on the history of the universe. The key message from all these experts though is we need to speed up the development and health of the third world. The other is that mankinds development effectively comes down to the surplus of energy flows, namely food (human energy) and power (all the way from horse power to electricity). If we can truely create cheap, clean and renewable/infinite energy and continue to become far more efficient with our food production while managing to dodge climate change then we really wont have much to worry about (on the scale of tens of thousands of years I mean). So in my opinion our priorities should be (in no particular order as they are all mutually exclusive): develop the 3rd world and end extreme poverty, stop contributing to climate change, develop cheap clean energy (of which Im most excited about the upcoming generation iv nuclear technologies), and continue to develop more efficient farming practices (as a society scrap this organic cult crap and embrace efficient farming including embracing the potential of GMOs). These should be the four building block principles to guide us to the end of the century. Now you might say thats all well and good and far more easier said than done (which yes it is) and ask, so why mention it? Well despite these 4 issues being the priorities of a number of intelligent and successful people from all over the world they very rarely seem to be the priorities (as a complete package) of anyone in Australia, especially not anyone in power. Yes I appreciate there are a number of domestic issues at hand but surely the root cause of all our domestic problems can be linked back to these four issues. Boat people, terrorism, cost of living etc. I know thats simplifying it but is it just me or is our government and by extension society instead actively against all of these things? Anti carbon tax or any other serious policy addressing climate change, anti GMOs, anti renewable and nuclear energy, and anti doing much for the third world (foreign aid budget cut, inability to act on Ebola out break). Lets get the message out there and get our priorities back on track. Think how far we have come in the last 20 years. Imagine the potential for the world in 20, 50, 100 years time. Lets make it happen. Have the conversation with not just those in power but everyone around you. Think critically about the world around you and understand the real difference you as an individual can make and the collective impact we can have as a society. (TLDR?)
