Happy Birthday Meaghan Victoria, you have grown to be a beautiful young woman, today on your 18 th Birthday I what you to know how you are loved. You are my miracle gift, you remind me every day of God’s love and grace in our lives. Let me explain, in September 1989 I was diagnosed with terminal liver disease, and give at the most five years. Over the next number of years my health worsened until the fall of 1994 when I received my first liver transplant. Over the next month all went well until early morning December 1995. Rosella and I were on our way to the U of A hospital for a checkup and ended up in almost fatal accident. We were trapped in the vehicle, Rosella for about an hour and a half and myself almost 3 hours. Though we fared not too bad with injuries, I had one injury that effective my transplanted liver. I had a severed bile duck, after several surgeries it was decided January 30,1996 to be re-transplant. At this time our daughter Robin and husband Mike were expecting their first baby. Over the next months as my health again became very fragile. March 22 of that year Robin went in to the hospital, we were all awaiting the arrival of our first grandchild. We waited most the day. (For me all I wanted to see this child before my health failed.) It was decided that we would make our way home, as this baby was taking its sweet time. As we walked into the house our phone was ringing, thinking it might be Mike telling us baby has arrived. We answer the phone and it was not Mike, it was the transplant unit, I was to immediately proceed to University Hospital. I was taken into surgery at 2 AM [March 23] to be re-transplanted. It wasn’t until the late afternoon of the 23rd that Rosella came into ICU, and I was told I was a grandpa to beautiful baby girl, Megan Victoria. I had to wait for a couple of days before I got too hold my baby girl, WHAT A MOMENT! I what you to know this journey has not been easy it has and contain to test my faith. Every emotion I am sure I have experience anger, discouragement and I have certainly question God. Then I am reminded. “Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6) God has sustained my health and bless me with six more grandchildren. This is why March 23 is a special day. With all my love Meaghan (Miss Mugs) you are Awesome, have a wonderful day!
