Happy Birthday today (Dec. 6) to Peter Buck, who came to prominence as the founding guitarist for influential Athens, Georgia group R.E.M. - one of the first alternative rock bands to cross over from college radio to mainstream success (1991 UK #6 & US #10 single Shiny Happy People, plus over 20 Top 40 UK singles, 1992 UK #1 & US #2 album Automatic For The People); he has also been an official member of many side project groups, including Hindu Love Gods, The Minus 5, Tuatara, The Baseball Project, Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus 3, & Tired Pony, each of which released at least one album; as a producer, Peter has worked with the likes of Uncle Tupelo, Dreams So Real, The Fleshtones, Charlie Pickett & The Feelies; as a session musician, he has sat in with The Replacements, Billy Bragg & Eels; R.E.M. was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 2007; after the groups 2011 dissolution, Peter was the first member to release a solo album, the 2012 Peter Buck (on vinyl only!); he is also known for his encyclopedic knowledge of music, as well as his extensive personal record collection; Peter released his second solo album, I Am Back to Blow Your Mind Once Again, in 2014…
