Happy Birthday today to Ted Templeman, who first came to prominence as the 1966-70 vocalist, guitarist & arranger with California Sunshine Pop band Harpers Bizarre; their 1967 cover of Simon & Garfunkels The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin Groovy), recorded with producer Larry Waronker & an arrangement created by Leon Russell, reached US #13 (UK #34); Ted moved into production & had long, successful runs with both The Doobie Brothers & Van Halen; he also brought his strong, clear aesthetic to notable albums by Van Morrison (the classics Tupelo Honey & Saint Dominics Preview), Little Feat (Sailin Shoes), Captain Beefheart (Clear Spot) & Montrose (their self-titled debut); Ted has worked more sporadically since the late-80s - his more recent productions include the Joan Jett & The Blackhearts albums Naked (2004) & Sinners (2006), as well as reuniting with The Doobie Brothers for World Gone Crazy (2010)…
