Happy DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH! A reminder that you never know what blessings are in store for you. I remember when she was born it was fun and exciting and frightening and sad all at once. We didnt know what to expect. We were afraid of the future and I hate to say it but I also felt ashamed. We didnt know what others would think. We didnt know how to help her learn to walk or how to best develop her speech. I still dont know how i have the patience to get her dressed in the mornings or on the bus, etc. If she doesnt want it to happen folks, its not going to be easy. I wondered if she would make out through her heart surgery when she went into heart failure as a 3 month old infant. I really hoped she could be potty trained! Im learning the ropes with hearing aids and palatal expanders, ent appointments and therapies. We also didnt know about all the wonderful people we would meet, the awareness of others with special needs we would achieve our the joy Id feel when she smiles and says I like you mom. I love you because youre the best ever! Or when she wires her name or masters a beautiful pirouette in her ballet class. Brooklyn blesses our life in so many ways. We loved her from the start, but we didnt know just how much we would love this cute little red head! In so grateful she is a blessing in our life! Love Brooklyn Rae and family. :-)
